Veljanovska and Gomez-Junco to make W-League debut

Saturday, May 18, 2013

SANTA CLARITA, CA. - The Santa Clarita Blue Heat are pleased to announce the addition of two new players, and the return of a pair of veterans, as they build toward the start of the 2013 W-League season. Both Snez Veljanovska and Natalia Gomez-Junco will make their W-League debuts this summer, while standouts Cynthia Jacobo and Ana Borges return to the Blue Heat.

Veljanovska, a defender, is originally from Australia. She previously played for Canberra United FC of the Australian W-League. Her fellow new arrival, Gomez-Junco, recently made her first appearances for the Mexican National Team, having represented the country at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in 2012. Gomez-Junco is preparing for her junior season at LSU, having previously played for the University of Memphis.

Jacobo, the 2011 W-League Goalkeeper of the Year, returns to the Blue Heat after another standout season for Cal-State Northridge. Jacobo earned her second All-Big West First Team selection, completing her college career with a 0.58 goals-against average.

Borges, a Portuguese international, also returns, with her speed and ability to move the ball around the field providing the ingredients for some beautiful goals to come. Borges had four goals and four assists a season ago, and new coach Anthony Rodwell will be hoping for more of the same this season.

The Santa Clarita Blue Heat are very excited about their squad for the upcoming season, with strong talent returning to compete for the Western Conference title. The season begins on Saturday, May 25 against the Bay Area Breeze. The Blue Heat’s home opener is set for Friday, May 31 against the LA Strikers at The Master’s College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT, for tickets visit www.scblueheat.com.
